The Suzuki Jimny is a quite a special little SUV and has proven itself over the period of its existence as a tough four-wheel drive mini. Little Jimny has always been offered as 3-Door variant since inception back in 1970 and has gone to sell well over 2 million of them in over 190 countries. What is interesting is that Suzuki has never seen the need to have it as a 5-Door variant however practical it sounds.
News surfacing via Indianautosblog.com is that the Japanese carmaker is working on a 5-Door iteration of the Jimny and some rendered images make for a compelling case for such a version. Stretching the chasis will extend the wheel base and add practicality to the otherwise capable vehicle.
The Jimny is currently offered with a 1.5 Naturally Aspirated petrol engine producing 75kW and 130 Nm of torque. It goes without saying that power is channeled to all four wheels using a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Pricing starts from R 285 900 for the entry level GA manual version.
It remains to be seen if the rumours are correct and if so, the Jimny 5-Door will be a welcomed addition.
