The Jeep brand is not exactly synonymous with bakkies, but rather built up a reputation for robust off-road wagons and lifestyle orientated vehicles. These are the dudes that gave us the indestructible go-anywhere Second World War Willys MB for the US military armed forces!
There’s numerous range of wagons they have produced over the years such as the Wagoneer, Cherokee, Commander and Grand Cherokee. They however, did offer pick-ups such as the Gladiator J20 in the 1960’s and 70’s as well as the Comanche Pickup from the 80’s (based on the Cherokee) and the recent Gladiator JT currently on sale in some markets like the US and Australia since 2019.
History tells us that they have taken their 4×4 Wagons and turned them into pick-ups and now can you imagine a Jeep Bakkie based on the current Grand Cherokee SUV’s look? Well imagine no more and rather feast your eyes on the photochopped rendering by Sugar-Design. It makes a compelling argument for GC Bakkie!
The skill of this digital artwork is convincing for a real life Grand Cherokee Pick-up, as a more ‘softer’ alternative to the JT Gladiator, to take on the likes of Volkswagen Amarok, Mercedes-Benz X-Class, Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux.
It’s a simple case of admiration and an imaginative initiative.
