Remember Proton? The Malaysian car making brand that gave us Satria Neo, Saga, Gen 2, Arena bakkie, Persona and the dinky Savvy? If you don’t it’s alright, I have pictures attached and if you do you’d remember them for being a value for money budget conscious brand from Asia. They have since left the country having been around for Ten years (2005 – 2015) due to our weakening currency for competitive pricing. Their cars fared decent and I personally liked the Satria Neo 3-door hatchback. Proton continues to operate and sell cars in its home country and other international markets, with some sleek designs too!
Anyways, Proton does not have a bakkie since the Arena 1/2 Ton bakkie that was also sold in South Africa, a bakkie that would take on the likes of Hilux and Ranger. Digitally, a well known renderer dude called Theophilus Chin has imagined and rendered one based on Geely’s good looking Haoyue VX11 SUV.
This double cab rendering is a convincing bakkie and pulls off the tough look to take it to the competition, featuring some sleek DRL, a well proportioned grille, subtly creased wheel arches, smooth A Pillar, a squared off C-Pillar, roof rails and a rear end that’s reminiscent of the new Nissan Navara. The interior of the Haoyue is a nice place to be, neatly laid out with a big stacked media screen and that would be an exultant place to be in for a bakkie.
Seeing that the rendering design is not a unibody, it’s safe to say the platform would be a body-on-frame setup like the rugged bakkies are constructed, obviously complimented by a torquey diesel engine and transmission choices.
If this were to happen would it give the segment leaders sleepless nights? On looks alone yes, reputation is another story. For Proton though this may be something to chew on, since they experimented with a concept a few years ago.
So what are your thoughts on this imagined bakkie?
